The Crave: There's Something About Velvet

There is nothing like velvet to say Merry Christmas!  It is like the traditional, staple of the holiday season to have some sort of velvet wear for your wardrobe.

No matter how you feel about velvet, you should still take a moment to look at them and perhaps buy a piece.  The key: keep it simple! Here are just a few simple, velvety pieces.

American Apparel have pretty good selections of your basic velvet wear.  This pencil skirt is just what a girl needs in her closet.

And who doesn't need a blue velvet dress?? This classic cut is perfect for most of everyone out there who is willing to give it a go.  This dress can be worn basic as this or dress it up with some nice bling, shocking shoes or tuxedo jacket.  Give it a try.  Again, hit up American Apparel.

And boys... don't worry, there is velvet for you too.  It's so sexy when worn right.  I love how the gentleman on the left kept things simple.  He can wear this jacket even two years from now.  And the purple one is great too!  LOVE!  No need to tell you where to go... H&M.

Not ready for the velvet jacket, try a pair of Tom's instead.  Nordstrom has this exclusively, of course on Tom's website too.  Saw it in person at a Nordstrom store... they have them in blue!!

Want to me adventurous? Love these two looks below from Free People.

The Crave: YSL Shift Dress with Glencheck Skirt

Source: My Theresa

Saw this YSL dress on a few months ago.  So I thought to myself... I think I have something like it, somewhere in my vast closet.  Took me two months but I found my dress that is a copy of this YSL:

Just have to alter the sweater part (too long) and
then it will be perfect!

Thank you my Parisian sister who got this for me from ol'Paris!

The Random: Holy Stapler Packman!

So cute!  Great for Christmas stockings!

The Recipe: Lamb Kabobs and Couscous

From Barefoot Contessa, comes this very easy and yummy recipe.  The marination took a day but everything else after was quick and easy.

Don't have currants? You can substitute it with dried cranberries.

To get the full recipe, go to Barefoot Contessa.

The Know: Sequins, feathers and lots of shimmers!

From the Urban Outfitters 2011 November Catalog, welcome holiday season!

Here are some fun looks for your holiday season get together and just because....

The above outfit is a different look but well put together .  Love the feathers of the dress and the shimmer leggings.  And the shooooes!! OMG.  Very fun.

Sequins everyone, sequins.  It's big this season.  The nice thing is, with a little imagination, sequins can be worn even during the day.  Just be sure that you don't make it too flashy.  Try pairing your sequin cardigan with plain ole jeans and basic T.  Or you can try wearting it like the girl on the left above.  Very chic and simple.

Going on a casual date? This look is an understatement but very cool.  The shimmer dress is not too flashy either so a great introductory piece to sequins.

And don't forget the lace dress, animal prints and the pleated (accordion) skirts!

The Random: Gettn' Hair Did

The best hair stylist, designer and teacher in Portland! Robert Sean Miller of 77 Salon.  Check him out.

This contraption is so steamy! Literally.  Getting my new red hair refreshed the other day.  To lock in the color and protect my naturally black hair from the coloring process, Robert uses Wella Professional products as well as this cool steam technology.  Much better for you hair versus the traditional blow-dry.

Got a little bored towards the end, as you can see from this pic below.

Oh... and he gave me this chic hair cut.
